California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)
For the Energy Division of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Benningfield Group developed and maintains a customized web-based contract management system to assist in tracking and managing several dozen contracts and purchase orders used to evaluate the effectiveness of the more than 200 utility-sponsored Energy Efficiency Programs. The system can create contracts, invoices, review and approve invoices, note payments and aging, automate messaging, and exception reporting. We also provide support and training for users through an online user guide and available “best practices” modules.
We also developed and manage the Energy Division’s Public Document Area—a “one-stop shop” for stakeholders to find all the public information related to California’s Evaluation, Measurement, and Verification (EM&V) work. The site’s content contains critical, over-arching information, such as important meeting dates, meeting notes, project status documents, and more. Users of this site can also search for work orders, research plans, and final reports for CPUC projects, as well as proposals of IOU EM&V studies approved by the Energy Division.
We also provide user support, regular updates to the user guide, answers to user questions, web-based training, and best practices guides.
LIGHTFAIR International is an annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference. It is run by the owner of AmericasMart, architect John Portman. We maintain and enhance applications for this website, which is very similar to the work that we do for AmericasMart. These applications include dynamically created exhibitor lists, online submittals for Innovation Awards, online call for speakers, and vendor booth sign-up and support. We also maintain their admin panel (a non-public website) that is used for exhibitor maintenance, vendor space assignment, and billing/invoicing.
Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA)
The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) quality assurance accreditation program gives HVAC contractors a way to prove their competence to builders and homeowners. Designed by ACCA with contractor input, the quality assurance program focuses primarily on ANSI/ACCA standards, accrediting contractors who follow those standards when installing HVAC systems in new and existing residential buildings. Benningfield Group was responsible for creating a website and app that could collect and catalog data directly from contractors as they moved through the qualification process.
To be effective, the systems had to be both user-friendly and robust. As contractors use the app to complete an installation checklist, the software provides guidance and assistance as appropriate. Once the checklist is complete, the app employs several internal error-checking methods before uploading the results to a database. As soon as the data is uploaded, the database performs further validation checks before automatically sending the information to various stakeholders (e.g., HVAC contractor, ACCA Program Administrator, etc.) for review.
Working with ACCA, Benningfield Group put its experience in both software development and energy efficiency into creating the infrastructure for this important project. This unique position allowed us not only to leverage the expertise of our talented software team, but also to take advantage of our staff who understand the needs and expectations of the app’s regular users.
AmericasMart Atlanta is a large merchandise mart in Atlanta. This is a wholesale marketplace that retailers attend in order to select what merchandise they want to sell. We maintain and enhance the AmericasMart website using the Joomla framework with custom modules and templates. We also create and maintain all related database-driven applications including the company’s mobile app. These applications include dynamically created exhibitor lists, dynamic building floor plans of showrooms, invoicing, payment processing and online exhibitor data.
Software Solutions for the Wine Industry
Benningfield Group maintained and enhanced software solutions, content management tools, and administrative functions for two companies in the wine industry—VinoVisit and eWinery Solutions. VinoVisit offers bookings for winery tours, tastings and winemaker dinners at six different wine regions in California. eWinery Solutions provides the wine industry with website and content management tools for wineries. Between both clients, our work included software design, database design, application development and testing, tools to manage online wine sales, wine club registration, wine club shipments and online event registration.
